Essay about NATO – Anja Ilievska, P. S. “Blaze Koneski” – Skopje, V-1

After the end of the Second World War there was the need to stop some armies that might start a new war. That is why the North Atlantic Treaty Organization was formed, on September 4th 1949.

It is a military alliance of countries from Europe and North America. Its headquarters is in Brussels, Belgium. Founded by the countries determined to preserve freedom and the civilization of their people, based on democracy and individual freedom.  Each member state protects its and the others’ integrity. The North Atlantic Treaty is committed to mutual solidarity in case of aggression by one or more members, yet they each have the right to make their own decisions about their national armies in case of attack.

NATO is devoted to peaceful resolution of conflicts, but it the diplomatic attempts don’t work then the crisis is managed in an armed manner. NATO’s decisions are brought by consensus of all 29 members. In its headquarters there are daily meetings and exchange of information, ideas and decisions by numerous employees.

Our country aspires to be the 30th member of NATO. It has been contributing with its army on military missions in areas of war and conflict, side by side with NATO’s soldiers for a long time now. By joining NATO as an equal member, our country will have the guaranteed freedom from outside aggression. This means children will be able to live their childhood freely. Only a safe country may have happy people, and be stronger economically.
