ESSAY ABOUT NATO – Iva Kaevik, PRIMARY SCHOOL “BLAZE KONESKI” – SKOPJE, V-1

NATO or the North Atlantic Treaty organization is sometimes called the Atlantic Alliance, or Western Alliance, and it is an international security organization founded with the signing of the North Atlantic Treaty on 04.4.1949. The headquarters of NATO is in Brussels, Belgium.

The organization is a system of collective defense, by which its member states are committed to mutual defense in case of an attack by outside parties or countries. In the first few years NATO was a regular political association. The first Secretary General of NATO is Hastings Ismey, who states that the aim of the Organization is “Defense from one eastern country- the USSR and keeping Germany submissive”. As a result of the important role that Great Britain had in the Alliance, France withdrew its membership in 1966.

Our country is an equal member, taking part in peace missions organized by NATO. To me, NATO as a term means peaceful children’s dreams and happy childhood for every child.
